Postcards to the Future is an NT wide mail art project to support communities to reflect and grow from and through the time of COVID19.
COVID19 has caused profound disruption to everyday life, with changes across the work, home and social sphere occurring alongside broader regional, national and international upheaval.
As Arundhati Roy writes
“Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.”
Postcards to the Future aims to create a bridge between these two worlds by using postcards as a time capsule, capturing a moment in time, created in this pandemic portal, and stored by DCA, to be posted back into the post pandemic world.
Community members are invited to reflect on something they have noticed or learned during the social, cultural and economic changes caused by COVID-19 that they would like to remember and carry forward into a post pandemic world.
Participants need to register through the attached Google form then they will be supplied with a stamped blank postcard to document their reflections through written or visual mediums, or a combination of both. A series of simple questions will act as provocations for reflection. Participants will put a return address on the postcard and send it back in the provided stamped, addressed envelope. These will be held for safe keeping and mailed to participants on the 1st of May 2021.
